Well, obviously, he needs the Corrupt ability. Maybe he should have Regeneration too, just to make him really hard to kill?

Give him cold attacks, say he was abandoned in winter by his lord for being, basically, too good a general and left to do the local equivalent of a land war in russia during the dead of winter?

And so he died in the snow and cold and ice, swearing a mighty oath of vengeance on behalf of himself and his men. And the Unhallowed heard the oath, and basically said 'score, free legendary general'.

He could be based a bit off a non epic version of this, perhaps?

I'm not even gonna try any lore with this as the lure of referencing the movie Krull will be too much. Happerry's betrayal take is a good foundation.
