    city gold income calculation

starting city in screenshot. Three starting buildings, with upkeep of 3 gold total per turn (ignore the granary that I just started building). 4 gold income from population - 3 upkeep = 1 net gold income? Please advise.

The one on the left is your total (global) gold income, the one on the right is your city income. City income does not take any units into consideration, so most probably you have a unit with a gold upkeep of 1.

    Yes, one military unit.

Hopefully you guys will explain in a tooltip.

Something still seems amiss: now I have two units, and there is no change in the +1 gold income status. It should be +0.

Different units have different upkeep costs. IIRC Elven Longbowmen only cost 1 food upkeep. Elven Druids cost 1 food + 1 gold upkeep.

It is understood that the various units have different requirement cost for food, gold or negative energy...

What would be helpful is a Profit and Loss summery, (e.g. Gold: Income 6, Spending 5, Gross Income +1) was given on the fly over of each resource.
If clicked on would open a screen that gives you a detailed P&L break down of all income and out go for that subject. (e.g. Gold: Income from each Specific Buildings, Resources or what ever else. Spending from each Specific Buildings, Troops, Heroes or anything else.)

The global income indicators are set beneath the name of the city, which implies that its relevant to that city.

Global income indicators should be set above individual city windows / panels, in order to make it clear that they are empire-wide and not specific to that city.
