Several times now when I have played lomg games (over 200 turns) the game ends i.e. it goes to the end game score screen - while there are still AI Wizards active. If I reload a save it once again takes me to the end of game screen.
Is there some sort of maximum unit count in the game?
Is there a maximum turn limit forbthe game?
Any ideas for things to try?

Could it be that another wizard cast the Spell Of Domination?
