What a ridiculous line. Clearly you don't know some of the same people I do. While we are concerned with keeping what we've worked for as a society, I'd hardly call my father, grandfather, other elders or other foreign nationals' immigrants as being vacuous or without a world view? Sheep? Really? You need to find yourself some new acquaintances, JDA-maybe ones that have a stable enough world view to know that all countries have their issues.

An American passport is still quite useful for travel. Perhaps (assuming that you have one), you can emigrate to where you think you'll find a better way of life in Muldova? Mali? Malaysia? Burma? Greece? Spain?

I have yet to travel to another country that I think would give me and mine a better shot at life.

Well looking at the bigger picture Chickenboy I have to say that a vast majority of western Civ civilians are sheep...mindlessly consuming and going to worship in their huge ampitheatres\churches at the weekend that are shopping malls. Zombie movies have always been a metaphor for modern society.

So honestly I wouldn't take to much offense at it. I'd say a vast majority of the UK are sheep aswell.

    Most people are always Sheeple. Thats why criminals & demagogues can ultimately outmaneuver the unwary & take over. The US is in the deepest shit of its 200+ years history. The threat isnt coming from the Moslems, the Russians, Germans, Brits, Spaniards, Japan or even China. Our worst enemies are right here inside the US, puppeteering the White House, Congress & the Supreme Court. Heres a tiny littel tidbit for you; Governor Richard Lamm, 2004 speech;
I have a secret plan to destroy America. If you believe, as many do, that America is too smug, too white bread, too self-satisfied, too rich, let’s destroy America. It is not that hard to do. History shows that nations are more fragile than their citizens think. No nation in history has survived the ravages of time. Arnold Toynbee observed that all great civilizations rise and they all fall, and that “an autopsy of history would show that all great nations commit suicide.” Here is my plan:

    1. We must first make America a bilingual-bicultural country. History shows, in my opinion, that no nation can survive the tension, conflict and antagonism of two competing languages and cultures. It is a blessing for an individual to be bilingual; it is a curse for a society to be bilingual. One scholar, Seymour Martin Lipset, put it this way: “The histories of bilingual and bicultural societies that do not assimilate are histories of turmoil, tension and tragedy. Canada, Belgium, Malaysia, Lebanon all face crises of national existence in which minorities press for autonomy, if not independence. Pakistan and Cyprus have divided. Nigeria suppressed an ethnic rebellion. France faces difficulties with its Basques, Bretons and Corsicans.”

    2. I would then invent “multiculturalism” and encourage immigrants to maintain their own culture. I would make it an article of belief that all cultures are equal: that there are no cultural differences that are important. I would declare it an article of faith that the black and Hispanic dropout rate is only due to prejudice and discrimination by the majority. Every other explanation is out-of-bounds.

    3. We can make the United States a “Hispanic Quebec” without much effort. The key is to celebrate diversity rather than unity. As Benjamin Schwarz said in the Atlantic Monthly recently, “The apparent success of our own multiethnic and multicultural experiment might have been achieved, not by tolerance, but by hegemony. Without the dominance that once dictated ethnocentrically, and what it meant to be an American, we are left with only tolerance and pluralism to hold us together.” I would encourage all immigrants to keep their own language and culture. I would replace the melting pot metaphor with a salad bowl metaphor. It is important to insure that we have various cultural sub-groups living in America reinforcing their differences, rather than Americans emphasizing their similarities.

    4. Having done all this, I would make our fastest-growing demographic group the least educated. I would add a second underclass, unassimilated, undereducated and antagonistic to our population. I would have this second underclass have a 50 percent dropout rate from school.

    5. I would then get the big foundations and big business to give these efforts lots of money. I would invest in ethnic identity, and I would establish the cult of victimology. I would get all minorities to think their lack of success was all the fault of the majority. I would start a grievance industry blaming all minority failure on the majority population.

    6. I would establish dual citizenship and promote divided loyalties. I would “celebrate diversity.” “Diversity” is a wonderfully seductive word. It stresses differences rather than commonalities. Diverse people worldwide are mostly engaged in hating each other–that is, when they are not killing each other. A “diverse,” peaceful or stable society is against most historical precedent. People undervalue the unity it takes to keep a nation together, and we can take advantage of this myopia.

Look at the ancient Greeks. Dorf’s “World History” tells us: “The Greeks believed that they belonged to the same race; they possessed a common language and literature; and they worshiped the same gods. All Greece took part in the Olympic Games in honor of Zeus, and all Greeks venerated the shrine of Apollo at Delphi. A common enemy, Persia, threatened their liberty. Yet, all of these bonds together were not strong enough to overcome two factors … (local patriotism and geographical conditions that nurtured political divisions …)” If we can put the emphasis on the “pluribus,” instead of the “unum,” we can balkanize America as surely as Kosovo.

    7. Then I would place all these subjects off-limits–make it taboo to talk about. I would find a word similar to “heretic” in the 16th century that stopped discussion and paralyzed thinking. Words like “racist”, “xenophobe” halt argument and conversation. Having made America a bilingual-bicultural country, having established multiculturalism, having the large foundations fund the doctrine of “victimology,” I would next make it impossible to enforce our immigration laws. I would develop a mantra –”because immigration has been good for America, it must always be good.” I would make every individual immigrant sympatric and ignore the cumulative impact.

    8. Lastly, I would censor Victor Davis Hanson’s book “Mexifornia” –this book is dangerous; it exposes my plan to destroy America. So please, please–if you feel that America deserves to be destroyed–please, please–don’t buy this book! This guy is on to my plan.

“The smart way to keep people passive and obedient is to strictly limit the spectrum of acceptable opinion, but allow very lively debate within that spectrum.” –Noam Chomsky, American linguist and U.S. media and foreign policy critic.

    Heya SLAAKMAN,

We'll have to agree to disagree, I guess. These times are not our 'deepest shite' by a long stretch. PC-ism (such as those in that 8 year-old speech) and liberalism need to be fended away, but this is a chronic need, not an acute one.

No offense taken, Jason, but I just think it's an unjust characterization. The people that I know are earnestly trying to hold down a job, pay a mortgage, raise kids and maybe-just maybe-enjoy the fruits of their labors. Not a sheep, zombie, mindless drone amongst them. I guess I don't share your depressing world view of people leading their own 'ordinary' lives.

No worries...but people do follow..follow fashions...follow latest gadgets...follow the in band...sadly whether you like it or not everyone is brainwashed to a degree and it starts from birth. The TV was invented and the governments where made up as they saw the value of getting into peoples living rooms..even better than the radio (why did Hitler want everyone to have a radio in their house and if TV's had been out it would have been one of those). Take a step outside the box and view society at a distance, the more you look the more futile and plain silly it all is. Everything you see thats man made we made it up, someone originally imagined it and thought it was a great thing todo, like paper work and taxes and all the other mundane things we all do day in day out all because the generation before did it and so on and so on. Sadly nothing can change now, to many of us on the planet and we have dug ourselves this massive hole that we all think is how life is supposed to be, again isn'r supposed to be this way, we made it this way, all made up. Maybe if the Roman way of life hadn't come back with the Christian faith behind it society might be totally different to the way it si now. The reason depression and violence and anger is so prevalent when apparently we haven't had it so good is because our whole existence doesn't fit into our human psych. We are only really designed to cope with no more than 30 people (that was the size of tribes over so much of our existence) now we are surrounded by them thus getting our stress levels up add to the fact that really since hunting stopped men are in away emasculated in what they do the whole thing is a waste of most likely why we are here. Which would have been to use our intelligence to nurture the world, not plunder it for our own greed and quest for longer life as a species we are abhorrent, on an individual level then it's different again.

Again don't take it personally it's not an insult but the modern day human condition brought on by constant brainwashing from a young age. Consumerism is king, work hard and buy things cos your life will be better with more!

I agree with you JasonRimmer. But I get SOOOOOOOO tired of the necessity to say "...don't take it personally..." or I mean no offence. My God, any discussion should not be qualified with statements like those.

The only natural things we all do day today is eat,sh!t,p!ss and sex (if your lucky)...the rest is all made up by us at somepoint as a good idea to be doing like filing paper for instance..fantastic. Seriously take along hard think..it's bizarre and totally pointless so we are all filled with dissatisfaction making many depressed where the only thing to try and make is feel better is buy stuff.

I'm telling you now I'd bet money on the fact that back when we all were Nomads depression didn't exist, nor boredom.

It all goes to the instant gratification modern humans are accustomed to. Until fairly recently we did not have cell phones, DVR's, the internet...this is all new, relatively speaking. It is like a drug, once you build a tolerance you need more and more. So, we have reached a point where movies and TV programs(EVERY ONE OF THEM) are seconds away through Netflix(I am a charter member and love it), Hulu, iTunes...Hell, we gamers can no longer wait for a game to appear on store shelves(well that ended years ago) nor do we have the patience of waiting on the postman. I can't count the number of times I have seen Matrix members posting with FURY because a game is downloading to slowly or there is some hiccup in the process. My God, I think, why so impatient? AAAHHH.
