    Vacuum

    Name: Vacuum
    Circles: Air, Destruction
Description: Creates a temporary vacuum around a 3x3 tile area. Any units inside the vacuum cannot fly(unless they have magical type flying) and take slight damage each round. The effect persists for a number of rounds dependent on mana spent.

This one doesn't need a lot of explanation. It's a good, solid Air spell IMO.

    Anyone have anything to add?

Well my idea of a Vacuum is:
    * 3x3 tiles (OK place to start for size, playtesting )
    * Knocks air supported flying units to the ground (falling damage too)
    * Stuns/Dazes living and sonic sensitive units
    * Medium/High damage to living units
    * Low damage to unliving units (from the vacuum collapsing and air rushing back in)
    * Effect does NOT persist, is an instant spell (think real life thunder)
    * Any sonic sensitive units take extra damage.

At least that's what a real vacuum would do. Unless it's a higher level spell, maybe the area needs to be smaller.

It depends whether we want another attack/damage spell, or a 'tactical' spell. I imagine we won't be short of damage spells, so I personally like the idea of a 'flight denial' spell more. I wouldn't make an exception for magical flight tho.

If the intent is to ground flying units then the spell should be called Gravity.
Personally I like to have an idea of what a spell does just from its name. Living units need air to live and as a matter of fact being stuck in a vacuum causes your blood to boil so it would cause massive damage.

    EDIT:
Gravity would be Earth or Air and Augmentation or Summoning
    Same 3x3 area
Same grounding of flying units except no exceptions and they take falling damage
All units are slowed in the area of effect

I think we should let the effect remain for a few turns, but the damage diminish each round. Again, play testing is the answer.

I also kind of like the pitch for a Gravity spell

I like the Gravity spell, but would prefer a more interesting name "Enhanced Gravity" or "Gravity Bomb".

I think we should avoid having several exceptions to spells. I like the ideas in ampoliros' post, but split into 2 spells:

    "Gravity Bomb"
    * 3x3 tiles (May increase since it's not primarily a damage spell)
    * Grounds flying units
    * 1/2 movement rate while in area of effect

    "Thunder Clap"/"Sonic Boom"
    * 3x3 tiles (OK place to start for size, playtesting )
    * Knocks air supported flying units to the ground for X rounds
    * Stuns/Dazes living and sonic sensitive units
    * Effect does NOT persist, is an instant spell (think real life thunder)
    * Any sonic sensitive units take extra damage.

I can see your point there.

I'm about to move this to the spell list. Do we have a suggestion for the tier of the spell and the damage it does?

You can see the tentative writeup here (at the bottom of the page): http://wastelands-interactive.com/me...ntative_spells

    How many rounds, 3?

So "Slight damage" over 3 rounds... Going with d8 HP per unit level as average, then 1d6, 1d4, 1d2 damage.
Adjust if my assumptions are off.

Tier 2 or 3 sound good for starters.

Tier 2 and 1D4 seems like a good place to start to me
